International

The Dutch Blockchain Coalition (DBC) works nationally and internationally both within and outside the blockchain ecosystem. The aims of the international activities carried out by the DBC are (1) promoting the Netherlands as a blockchain partner in high-priority countries in particular and supporting the commercial sector in its international goals for such countries, and (2) setting up long-term strategic public-private partnerships for blockchain innovation and research.

European cooperation

An important recent development within the European Union is the announcement of a European Digital Identity. The Netherlands is seen as one of the guiding lights in digital identity and it can play a key role in this European development. The DBC is therefore investing in cooperation with working groups within the European Blockchain Partnership so that we can work together on the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure (EBSI).

In addition, the DBC also participates in INATBA (the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Application). Jacob Boersma (the SSI Team Lead at DBC) is a co-chair of the Identity working group at INATBA.

PIB Singapore

Cooperating with other companies from the sector and with the Dutch authorities can create a stronger position. Partners for International Business (PIB) is a programme that lets Dutch companies achieve their international goals in public-private partnerships. Together with a cluster of Dutch companies and centres of expertise, the Dutch authorities are working on a two or three-year action plan. This comprises strategic activities that will let a Dutch sector or subsector in general, and the cluster in particular, obtain the best possible position abroad.

The cooperation with Singapore aims to exchange the knowledge and experience that both countries have with blockchain ecosystems and to investigate what the options are for cross-border use cases between Singapore and the Netherlands. There is also a goal of improving the competitive position of the Dutch blockchain sector in logistics and infrastructure, smart cities, digital health and governmental services.

The DBC is coordinating the combination of organisations within the PIB cluster, consisting of: TNO, Ledger Leopard, Kryha, The Hague Security Delta, ABN AMRO, Port of Rotterdam, UNL, CADChain, CFLW Cyber Strategies, Sphereon, Cargoledger and Wordproof. Partners cooperating in this are ICTU and Deltares. Those involved from the public sector are the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, RVO) and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Singapore, plus the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Injustice and Security and Infrastructure and Water Management.

The Home Secretary Raymond Knops, Marloes Pomp, Rob van Gijzel and Peter Verkoulen spoke at the 2020 DBC conference about the mission to Singapore.

In 2023, there was another mission to Singapore, this time during the Singapore International Cyber Week #SICW from October 17-19, 2023. Alongside 13 other organizations, possibilities for Trust Tech partnerships between the Netherlands and Singapore were explored over three days. Key highlights include discussions with the Singaporean triple helix, focusing on Trust Tech applications such as Decentralized Tech for Identities, Responsible AI, and Forensic Copilot.
