The Trust and Security theme is developing a national public-private partnership that focuses on two pillars: Safety in Blockchain and Safety with Blockchain. Together with stakeholders involved from the government, the business community and knowledge institutions, we are working on a national agenda by jointly identifying the challenges and opportunities. This agenda gives direction to topics on which we exchange and develop knowledge and on which projects can be collaborated.
Safety in blockchain
This pillar focuses on a secure and reliable blockchain ecosystem by developing effective measures to prevent or detect abuse and fraud. Concrete examples of blockchain safety measures are, for example, making smart contracts more reliable or getting a grip on the most important blockchain risks on the basis of practical checklists. In addition to preventing abuse, it is important to be able to detect and prosecute illegal activities. This is particularly important when using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment for illegal activities. New detection methods and methods are needed to detect abuse of various blockchain technologies, seize profits and thereby frustrate criminal business models.
Safety with blockchain
This pillar focuses on opportunities in developing a secure digital environment by using decentralized cryptography, such as multiparty computing (MPC), homomorphic encryption (HE) and blockchain technology. By means of MPC, for example, parties can bring datasets together in a safe and privacy-responsible way without explicitly sharing data or transactions. Red flags are only reported if there is a valid reason for doing so. Such approaches safeguard the privacy of an individual or organization and also minimize the likelihood of data breaches and the consequences of cyberattacks. More insight into practical applications combined with more awareness is needed to seize the opportunities with this privacy-friendly technology.
